Young American dies on hiking trip in Bogd Khan park

The police have concluded that U.S. citizen Colin McLain froze to his death during a hiking trip in Bogd Khan National Park, south of Ulaanbaatar, over the weekend. The 25-year-old was in the country to do an eight-week "externship" with the legal adviser to the President of Mongolia. He arrived here at the end of May and was due to return to the United States in August.

According to his family in the USA, Colin was hiking with another American. They had water, a map and all the supplies they needed. The two stopped to camp the first night and when they were close to their destination the following day, Colin stopped to rest. He reportedly told the other American to continue without him and that he"d catch up. "The other guy went on," Colin’s grandfather told media. "He assumed Colin made it out. ... He didn"t report him missing for 36 hours."

Searchers found Colin"s body on Tuesday.
