Burkhan Khaldun Mountain under special protection

Site of Mongols history and Chinggis Khaan birthplace to be preserved in its natural state

On September 20, President Ts.Elbegdorj issued a decree to conserve the natural virginity of the Burkhan Khaldun Mountain and to safeguard Mongolian historical and cultural memorials, based on suggestions and opinions of scholars, researchers and citizens.The Burkhan Khaldun Mountain is a historical place where historical events
connected with the great history of the Mongolians and life of Chinggis Khaan
took place. With the decree, President reveres traditional custom and declared
performing ritual worship for Burkhan Khaldun Mountain on a new cairn located
near the foot of the Mountain’s supreme cairn.Moreover, the President instructed the
Government to define the unique natural and cultural valuables of the Burkhan
Khaldun Mountain and its surroundings and work-out a proposal to have it registered on UNESCO’s World Heritage.

The President also appealed to all government and non-government organizations, figures of scientific, historical and cultural spheres and individuals to
organize a wide-scope of efficient activities in relation to studies, and to protect the historical and cultural heritage regarding Chingis Khaan’s biography and publicize it around the world.
