SOCHI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th October, 2018) Mongolia and Russia will hold joint military exercises in the Mongolian region of Dornod next year, on the anniversary of the victory in the 1939 Battle of Khalkhin Gol, Mongolian Foreign Minister Damdin Tsogtbaatar told Sputnik on Wednesday.
"It will be held in Dornod next year and next year is the eightieth anniversary of our common victory, joint victory on the river Khalkhin Gol, and this is a very important date for Mongolian independence and sovereignty, and it was a very successful military campaign that both countries had, and we won that war.
Mongolia's independence and sovereignty as a result was secured. Therefore this is a good anniversary for us to have a joint military exercise," Tsogtbaatar said.
The minister added that Russia and Mongolia have a long history of partnership that goes beyond military cooperation.
"We had very longstanding military cooperation and we are strategic partners. Strategic partners means participation in every sector, and military cooperation is one of the important sectors of our cooperation. Therefore, it is a very natural exercise that we will be carrying out together," Tsogtbaatar said.
