Some say world is becoming more warmer these days. However, at this moment, we in Mongolia are having coldest winter in last thirty years.In western aimags like Uvs,coldest areas of country, air temperature expected to reach - 50 Celcius.
Previous winters was not that cold and were less snowy. Air temperature in Ulaanbaatar is in average -26 celcius and above -30 celcius in night. Municipal office of Ulaanbaatar is unable to fully remove ice and snow layers off roads. Slippery roads causing several times more traffic accidents. Cars in summer tires are called to stop participating in traffic unless get winter tires.
Public transport of Ulaanbaatar is working in state of full-preparedness-for-emergency.
Heating of some apartment districts are inadequate. People staying in their homes in several layers of clothes.
Situation in some of rural aimags are also dire. "Zud" disaster is eminent in many western and Gobi aimags which had much snowfall.Government of Mongolia mobilizing resources in help herders in remote, isolated areas.
