On September 29-30, Kang Chang-hee, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea
paid an official visit to Mongolia by invitation of his Mongolian counterpart, Z.Enkhbold. On the morning of September 30, Speaker Z.Enkhbold welcomed Mr. Kang on Chinggis Khaan square (formerly Sukhbaatar square). The two Speakers paid tribute to the Statue of Chinggis Khaan.
Then Mr. Kang left his signature in the book of Honored Guests at the Ceremonial Hall of the State House. Following the ceremony, the two Speakers held a meeting. During the meeting, Z. Enkhbold expressed satisfaction with the widening of bilateral relations at the comprehensive partnership level, and hoped that the visit of his counterpart will significantly contribute to strengthening relations and cooperation. “It is important to increase the bilateral trade and investments and to expand the cooperation in roads, transportation, mining, health andother sectors”, he said. “Mongolia wants investments from the Republic of Korea for the railway sector and to cooperate in introducing railway technology as well as preparing railway experts and professionals inSouth Korean schools,” he said.
He also asked that the S. Korean side activate cooperation in environmental and green development policy. In turn, Mr. Kang emphasized that bilateral relations, including the inter-parliamentary ties, have been widening, and hoped that Mongolia’s Parliament Speaker will focus on expanding inter-parliamentary relations. “Mongolia has become the fifth biggest partner to the Republic of Korea in terms of economic and foreign trade partnerships. Mongolia is rich in mineral resources, which means that its development and future are bright, and our 30-40- years of experience may benefit your objectives,” Mr. Kang emphasized.
Mr. Enkhbold proposed that S. Korea develop youth-targetedcooperation, expand the program on youth exchange, and collaborate in broadening the Social Welfare Service Center which ensures a social guarantee for S. Korea-based Mongolians.
Following the meeting, Prime Minister N. Altankhuyag met with Mr.Kang Chang-hee at the State House. At the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with widening bilateral relations in all sectors at the comprehensive partnership level.
He also underlined the importance of intensifying economic cooperation, increasing trade and investments, building a mechanism for holding talks at the government level on specific matters such as developing mutually-beneficial cooperation. To fulfill these objectives, they need to set up an intergovernmental trade and economic cooperation council or coorganize a consultative meeting, and he requested that the Speaker support these ideas.
