Russia and Mongolia will sign a medium-term program for the development of strategic partnership between the two countries. The signing ceremony will be held on April 14, during Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s official visit to Ulan Bator, Mongolian Foreign Minister Lundeg Purevsuren said in an exclusive interview with TASS.
"We have worked hard, meticulously developing this program," the Mongolian foreign minister said. "I think this is not only a medium-term plan for the bilateral relations development, but also a kind of a compass, a benchmark for our future actions over the next five years." According to him, this document is needed because under the existing regulations, the planning of bilateral relations is carried out only on a yearly basis based on the protocol of the Russian-Mongolian Intergovernmental Commission currently in effect, which is not enough to realize the full potential of the strategic partnership.
"In addition, the main topics that will be in the focus during Sergey Lavrov’s visit to Mongolia will be the strengthening of economic and political cooperation at the bilateral level, as well as the discussion of joint projects with the participation of China", the minister said. For further intensification of Russian-Mongolian interaction, the existing intergovernmental agreement on the promotion of regional and cross-border cooperation will be renewed. In addition, Lundeg Purevsuren said, it is planned to conclude a number of other important agreements, including the international road haulage agreement between the governments of Mongolia, the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China, as well as the rail transit agreement between the governments of Mongolia and Russia.
