ULAN BATOR, March 7 (Xinhua) -- The majority of women in Mongolia are paid less than men, with the gender pay gap in the country reaching over 25 percent, the country's National Statistics Office (NSO) said on Thursday.
There are 1,646,600 women living in Mongolia, of which 583,400 are employed, with an average monthly salary of 910,000 Mongolian tugriks (about 345 U.S. dollars), data from the NSO on the occasion of International Women's Day showed.
The average wage gap between women and men in the country is over 25 percent, and one in five Mongolian women has a university degree, according to the NSO.
In addition, the average life expectancy for Mongolian women is around 76 years, which is almost 10 years longer than men.
The median age for marriage for women in Mongolia is 26, and they give birth three times on average, the statistics showed.
Since 1957, Mongolia started awarding the Order of Maternal Glory to mothers who give birth to four or more children and ensure due care for their health, education, physical, spiritual and moral development.
There were over 220,000 awardees of the Order of Maternal Glory in Mongolia as of 2018.
