ULAN BATOR, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Tourist arrivals to Mongolia grew by 14.8 percent year-on-year in the first half of this year, official data showed Monday.
Mongolia attracted a total of 217,000 foreign tourists in the period from January to June, with China being the leading source, according to the country's National Statistics Office (NSO).
The Asian country earned 284.1 million U.S. dollars from tourism in the period, up over 10 percent compared to the same period last year.
"China has remained the leading source of foreign tourists to Mongolia. Chinese tourists accounted for more than one-third of total foreign tourists to Mongolia in the first half of this year," said the NSO.
Mongolia has set itself a goal of receiving one million foreign tourists and earning one billion U.S. dollars from tourism in 2020.
The country received a total of 529,370 foreign tourists in 2018, up some 11 percent from the previous year.
