Parliamentary stalemate continues in the Khural

More than a year has passed since parliamentary election of 2008. However, dispute over who won in constituency number 24 of Bayangol district of Ulaanbaatar still drags on.
Erdene, candidate of the Mongolian Democratic Party is recognized as winner by the General Election Commission of Mongolia recently. He came to opening of the fall session of the Khural with the hope of swearing an oath of legislator. At least that is what all legislators of Mongolian Democratic party thought would happen within first or second day of the session. By current law, "new" legislator is to be sworn in on first day Khural session.

MPRP group said legal case against Erdene is still pending and MPRP candidate Bayartsaikhan has not withdrawn his complaint against Erdene.
Erdene was investigated by the state prosecutor's office for embezzlement of state fund while he was head of the Social Insurance Agency of Mongolia. His case was dismissed by the court. However, Ministry of Social Wellfare and Labor appealed against the court decision.
MPRP pariamentary leader Lundeejantsan said unless legal case related to Erdene is settled, MPRP can not recognize the decision of the Election commission legitimate.
