Parliamentary subcommittee on Ethics passed a decision this afternoon to suspend immunity of Gundalai Lamjav, former Minister of Health and legislator (Democratic party-Khuvsgul aimag).
Anti-Corruption agency and State Prosecutor's office requested the suspension of immunity of the maverick legislator. Anti-Corruption agency suspects the legislator for embezzlement of state fund when he was the minister and pressing for questioning of the legislator. Under existing laws, the agency and any law enforcement agency in Mongolia can not question any legislator without asking first for suspension of immunity.
Previously state prosecutor's office requested five times suspension of the legislator, however, each time, it was voted against by the legislators.
The subcommittee decision will be discussed by the Parliamentary committee on state affairs and full session of the parliament.
