UNESCAP Executive Secretary meets Deputy Minister of Environment of Mongolia

Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia Ts.Batbayar on August 19 met with Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), who is paying a visit to Mongolia, Montsame said.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister Ts.Batbayar highlighted the outcomes of a project “Mongolia Sustainable Development vision” carried out in 2017 and 2018 and confirmed to ensure the realization of a resolution “Strengthening regional cooperation to tackle air pollution challenges in Asia and the Pacific” approved at the 75th session of the United Nations ESCAP.
Ms. Alisjahbana emphasized the active cooperation of Mongolia and the ESCAP within the framework of the East and North-East Asian Program for Environmental Cooperation. She then introduced that an issue of establishing a regional energy network is being studied, noting support for renewable energy in the region will make a great contribution to the reduction of air and environmental pollution. The two sides also talked about training of specialists in environmental field and strengthening the cooperation to curb air and environmental pollution.
