Mongolia's foreign trade up 10.2 pct in Jan.-May

ULAN BATOR, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's foreign trade of goods rose 10.2 percent year on year in the first five months of this year, amounting to 5.58 billion U.S. dollars, official data showed Wednesday.

Exports grew 13 percent year on year to 3.26 billion dollars in the Jan.-May period, while imports rose 6.3 percent to 2.32 billion dollars, the Mongolian National Statistical Office (NSO) said in a statement.

Mining products, including coal, copper concentrates and iron ore accounted for 83.1 percent of the total exports in the period, the NSO said, noting that a significant increase in revenue from these types of products mainly contributed to the overall growth.

The Asian country traded with 135 economies across the world in the first five months of 2019.

Mongolia's vehicle imports increase 56 percent in Q1

ULAN BATOR, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's vehicle imports increased by around 56 percent year on year in the first quarter of 2019, totaling 242.5 million U.S. dollars, local media reported on Thursday, citing the Mongolian Customs General Administration (MCGA).

The Asian country imported a total of 19,705 cars in the first three months of this year, up 41 percent compared to the same period last year, the MCGA said in a statement, noting that the increase is partly related to an economic recovery of the country.

In addition, the resource-rich country imported a total of 4,498 heavy trucks in the first quarter of 2019, up over 14 percent year on year. The rise in imports of heavy trucks was mainly attributed to expansion in mining activity and implementation of several major infrastructure projects, according to the MCGA.

Almost 90 percent of the total imported cars in the first quarter of 2019 were imported from Japan, while 40 percent of the heavy trucks were imported from China, the MCGA added.

Mongolia's foreign trade up 17 pct in Q1

ULAN BATOR, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Foreign trade turnover in Mongolia rose to 17 percent year on year in the first quarter of this year, the Mongolian Customs General Administration (MCGA) said Tuesday.

According to the MCGA, the Asian country's foreign trade totaled 3.57 billion U.S. dollars in the first three months of this year.

The country demonstrated a surplus in its foreign trade balance as exports exceeded imports by 458.9 million dollars, the MCGA said in a statement.

In addition, a few types of products, including mineral products, cashmere and hides accounted for around 93 percent of total exports during the

 period, the statement said.

Mongolia's foreign trade up 23.6 pct in first 11 months

ULAN BATOR, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's goods trade went up 23.6 percent year-on-year to 11.9 billion U.S. dollars in the first 11 months of 2018, official data showed Friday.

Exports rose 14.0 percent year-on-year in the January-November period to 6.5 billion U.S. dollars while imports increased 37.6 percent to 5.4 billion U.S. dollars, resulting in a trade surplus of 1.1 billion U.S. dollars, the Mongolian National Statistics Office said.

Mining is the main economic sector of the mineral-rich country. The industry accounted for 88.6 percent of total exports in the period, according to the statistical agency.

The landlocked Asian country has traded with a total of 155 countries in the first 11 months of this year and exported its goods and services to over 70 countries among them.
