Boroo Gold LLC has decided to dismiss 250 workers as it ends mining activity from December 1. The company’s President and Executive Director, John Kazakoff, has said in a statement that the decision to end mining “was a difficult one to take but we had no real choice”. The company “understands the difficulties to be faced by the retrenched employees and their families, as also by contractor and supplier companies, and by citizens benefiting from our local development projects”.
Boroo Gold began mining in 2004 and has always said the workers will move to the Gachuurt mine when work begins there. The Government permission has not yet been received but the company will take back the 250 workers if and when it is granted.
